Peak Season is Here: Stop Guessing and Start Improving
Why Your DIY Fixes Are Ruining Your Game (And How to Actually Lower Your Scores This Season)

Peak golf season is officially upon us. You’ve been waiting all year for prime conditions, but ask yourself honestly: are you actually playing the golf you know you're capable of?
As a golf instructor, I see the same thing every single day on the lesson tee. The average golfer comes in completely overwhelmed, battling a dozen different swing thoughts, watching endless quick-fix videos, and still slicing it into the woods.
Stop right there. You don't need more swing thoughts; you need the right ones.
That is exactly why taking a golf lesson right now is the single best investment you can make for your game. A good instructor doesn't just give you more to think about—they strip away the noise and give you a clear, actionable roadmap.
To give you a head start and show you how simple this game can actually be when you strip away the clutter, I want to share what actually matters for your game right now.
Forget the dozen swing thoughts. Focus on these three things and watch your consistency improve.
#1: YOUR CORE CONNECTION
Your power starts in your midsection, not your arms. Too many amateur golfers cast the club and try to muscle the ball down the fairway with just their upper body. Not only does this rob you of distance, but it absolutely destroys your timing.
Spend 15 minutes three times a week engaging your core during practice swings. Put the club across your shoulders and feel the rotation originate from your center. When your core leads, your arms naturally follow in the slot.
#2: SWING PLANE CONSISTENCY
Every great ball striker, from the touring pros to the scratch golfer at your local club, has one thing in common—a repeatable plane.
Work on staying on plane through impact. When your club travels on a consistent path, you eliminate the need for those last-second, desperate hand manipulations to save the shot. This single change eliminates the most common swing faults we see, from the dreaded over-the-top slice to the heavy chunk. Note: It is incredibly difficult to feel your own swing plane, which is exactly why having a professional instructor check your path on video is a game-changer.
#3: IMPACT POSITION
The golf ball only knows one thing: what the clubface tells it at the moment of impact. Where your club meets the ball determines everything.
Amateurs often practice by swinging out of their shoes, hoping for a good result. Instead, practice your dynamic impact position slowly. Feel your weight shifting to your lead side, your hands slightly ahead of the clubhead, and your hips opening up to the target. Speed comes after you nail the position. If you can't find the correct impact position in slow motion, you will never find it at 90+ miles per hour.
The Bottom Line
The best part is you can work on all three of these fundamentals in just one 30-minute practice session.
But don't do it blindly. Stop guessing what you're doing wrong and hoping you'll magically figure it out on the 4th tee box this Saturday. Book a lesson. Let an expert look at your swing, simplify your thoughts, and ensure that those 30-minute practice sessions are actually building good habits instead of reinforcing bad ones.
Peak season is here. Let’s get to work and make this your best year of golf yet.
